Explomadoza's story starts years before his birth, in the 1950's, when nuclear testing was in full swing. At first, the nuclear powers tried signing deals with the native islanders from the places they wanted to test on, but eventually they started to simply evict them, and after they were done let the islanders go back without warning them of the danger. Explomadoza's parents came to the island to treat the people living there for the illnesses resulting from the radiation. They stayed for several years, and gave birth to a son there. Unfortunately, the same radiation causing the sickness on the island affected their son, too. Unlike the islanders though, it caused him to become stronger.
Years later, Explomadoza's parents died trying to rescue people injured from a volcanic eruption when a second one buried everything for miles in ash. Taking on his parents' life work, Explomadoza travels the world trying to keep people from harm and aid other heroes when they are in need.

Happy that he was alive, he jumped for joy and hit his head on the ceiling, because he could now super jump. It didn't hurt him, because the additives in the batter made him invulnerable. The pancake mixer blades fused to his knuckles and he now has claws, making him very popular at barbecues. Why he wears the dumb headband, nobody knows. Or... or the shoulder pads. He is now The Patteroast, and sort of crazy. In the good and the bad way.

When Jefferson Lowell was growing up in Kings Row, few people would suspect he'd one day become a hero. He was a smart, quiet kid, who eventually got a scholarship to Paragon University in Steel Canyon. From there he found his calling: Nanotechnology. He quickly earned his PhD and rose in the field, and easily settled into the faculty. His knowledge of technology combined with his working class roots led many heroes to his office to talk to him, and he became a well-known contact around the city.
When the Rikti invaded, Dr. Lowell couldn't just stand by and watch the heroes he'd befriended rush into danger. He constructed a rough nanite armor that could construct various minerals to deflect different types of attack and went out to fight as well, registering as Dr. Fejwol (some of the letters in his first and name rearanged.) Today he splits his time between his research to improve his armor, working with heroes as a contact, and teaching classes on Applied Nanotech, Armor Studies, and Hammerology.

Asaph Paulo Oslo grew up in Baumton. In his teen years he became interested in Buddhism, and eventually he travelled to Nepal to study meditation. There he learned to unlock the powers of the mind.
Through intensive training, Asoposl became able to speed things up at the molecular level and control the resulting effects. Using this ability he can cause things to burst into flame, to radiate energy in harmful wavelengths, and even move very quickly.
He continues to meditate daily, and currently runs a school for meditation where he helps heroes to unlock their full potential.

If you ask James Richter, he'll deny that he's actually from Milwaukee. From a young age he was a science whiz, and started college at 15. About his second year of Grad school he started claiming to be British, even using a terrible British accent. His classmates at the time thought he was kidding, but the punchline never came, and as he became more insistant, they eventually just started playing along. After a few strangely strong earthquakes in Wisconsin, Richter (now claiming the title Lord) took his Applied Seismology degree and moved to Paragon City.
Bucking the trend of people called 'mad scientists' being either villains or on the sidelines, Lord Richter registered as a hero and continued his research. On the side he even managed to marry and start a family, who pointedly ignore the whole British thing. During the Rikti War he saved a few British heroes and achieved a dream when he was knighted for his efforts and granted honorary British citizenship.
At least his accent's gotten better over time.

Yetniy grew up in chaos, and thus has learned to always look out for himself first. In the past, he sought the protection of street gangs, and was an Outcast for a period. Just an ordinary guy trying to make a difference.
Bill Bowman was born in Atlas Park, the son of a shopkeeper. Later on, his father left him the store. A joke he heard many times living in Paragon City was that his name made him sound like an archery superhero. He laughed this off; it was just his name. One day after seeing an ad for archery classes however, he decided to try it as a lark. He found that he was actually quite good at it.
When the Rikti War struck, Bill found himself taking shelter in his home like pretty much any citizen. However, outside his window he saw an amazing sight: the famous hero Manticore fending off alien invaders with nothing more than a bow and arrow. Feeling a responsibility to the city he'd lived in his whole life, he picked up his bow and grabbed some odds and ends from around his store and went outside.
He managed to pick off a few Rikti before the war ended, and soon registered as a hero. Since then he's divided his time between managing the store and patrolling Atlas.

One day, after breaking three swords in a row, he started to despair. "How did my dad do this? How did my granddad do this? How the hell did the ancient Greeks manage to do this?!? Hmph. At least they had Hephaestus to ask for help. I wish Hephaestus could help me..."
Suddenly, flames shot out of the forge, forming the image of a man. Benjamin leapt back and the flames spoke to him, "It has been many years since anyone has wished for my assistance. You have a great potential, Benjamin. I will show you the way." The flames retreated, but with one final burst something shot from the forge: a perfectly crafted blade.
